A Morning in Casablanca

We were up early - well I was anyway: 3 a.m. (argh!).

After brekky we did the Lonely Planet walking tour which was great as we meandered around town looking at the colonial Mauresque architecture for which Casa (as it is known) is renown. The style blends aspects of traditional Moroccan design such as lslamic arches, columns, scrollwork and tilework with the more liberal influences of early 20th century Europe. By the 1930s, Mauresque architecture began to reflect the Parisian art-deco style, characterised by ornate wrought-iron balconies, staircases and windows; carved facades and friezes; and rounded exterior corners. Some of these buildings have been restored or are kept in good condition and some are in a very sorry state.
